Collingwood – “Not A Royal Fanboy”
“It was an entertaining sight, to so new a courtier, to observe the pleasure that sprang into the countenances of all, when Her Majesty was graciously pleased to repeat to them a few words which were not intended to have any meaning; for the great art of the courtly manner seems to be to smile on all, to speak of all, and yet leave no trace of meaning in what it said.”
– Collingwood after meeting The Queen
Collingwood during the Battle of Trafalgar:
“Walking the break of the poop with his little triangular gold-laced cocked hat, tights, silk stockings, and buckles, musing over the progress of the fight, munching an apple.”
– Capt. Hercules Robinson, former midshipman to Admiral Lord Collingwood
